Napoleon woman accused of attacking a priest

A Napoleon woman accused of attacking a priest at his home in Cloverdale has been indicted by a Putnam County grand jury. 65 year old Frances Wilhelm of Napoleon, was indicted on charges of attempted murder and felonious assault The indictment stems from an alleged incident that occurred on Sept. 5 when Wilhelm attacked 84 year old Father Herman Scherger outside of his home with a hammer. According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Scherger arrived at his residence and found a vehicle parked in his driveway. Wilhelm allegedly struck Scherger multiple times with a hammer before he was able to leave the scene in his vehicle. Scherger was treated at St. Rita’s Ambulatory Care Center in Glandorf while Wilhelm was taken to ProMedica Defiance Regional Hospital for a psychiatric observation. Wilhelm’s bond was set at $250,000. She is scheduled to appear for arraignment on Wednesday.
