Nelda N. Koralewski, 67

Nelda N. Koralewski left these mortal bounds on December 19, 2019, after more than 16 years of battle against a degenerative disease that left her homebound and bedbound.

Born to Charles and Anne McGehee in Richmond, Va.,  on May 10, 1952, Nelda was the loving spouse of Don Koralewski of Bryan for 23 years. She was also mother to Kelly Sweet (Brian) of Toledo, Brandon McIntyre and Cuyler Lee McIntyre.

Nelda is preceded in death by her parents, her grandmother Nell S. McGehee, her sister Charlotte Anne Sheppard and her son Cuyler. She is also preceded in death by a companion cat of 19 years — Molly, who stayed at her bedside throughout the years of incapacity until her death in October of this year.

Nelda is survived by husband Don, daughter Kelly, son Brandon, and brother Charles M. McGehee IV.

Prior to being overcome by illness, Nelda was a Ph. D. student and recipient of the prestigious MSU Distinguished Fellowship at Michigan State University — her choice school after having been accepted to four nationally prominent Ph. D. programs.

At MSU, Nelda’s discipline was feminist philosophy and medical ethics. Previous to this, Nelda earned a bachelors and masters degree at the University of Toledo.

Among her greatest pleasures in life was teaching classes to undergraduates at the University of Toledo.

Throughout her adult life, Nelda engaged in a number of occupations. None were more rewarding to her than her graduate studies, her work as a research assistant in the University of Toledo Office of Research, and her work as a news assistant for the Daily Press in Newport News, Va.

A celebration of Nelda’s life will take place at a later date.

The family wishes to thank Williams County EMS, the doctors, nurses and staff at CHWC ICU, and Life Connection of Ohio. They all facilitated Nelda’s wish to donate her organs — thanks to their efforts and care, Nelda may live on through others.
