No New Truck In Defiance

In Defiance, the purchase of a dump truck may now be put off for at least a year.

The Crescent News reports that an ordinance allowing the purchase of a 2015 tandem axle cab and truck chassis, dump bed and assembly services was let lie at this week’s council meeting after at least one council member questioned the expense.

Minus a trade-in allowance for a 1998 GMC dump truck, the total cost of the new truck would be $105,089.

The question arose when one council member showed that the maintenance expense for the existing 1998 vehicle was $1,877 for 2013 and 2014. He also said the truck isn’t used that often, mainly just for snow removal in the winter and hauling stone when water mains are repaired.

It now appears that the city might just be able to get by with what it has for the next year or two, and save a lot of money in doing so.
