Opal V. Kimberly, age 93, of Evansport, passed away in her home on Monday, April 20, 2015. She had been a housewife and in the 1950’s she worked at the former Eddie’s Glass Bar in Stryker, where she met her husband, John. She also helped John on the family farm.
Opal was born in Blakeslee, Ohio on October 2, 1921, the daughter of Owen V. and Adeline (Schaull) Miller. In 1959 she married John W. Kimberly, and he preceded her in death in 2001. She loved sitting outdoors, dogs and cats, and sitting in front of the woodstove in the winter months.
In 1939 Opal gave birth to her son, John F. Shannon, and he preceded her in death in 2013. In 1960 she gave birth to her son William Ward (Karen) Kimberly, and he survives. Also surviving is grandson, Ken P. Shannon; great-grandson, Joe Hiler; three great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Owen Victor Jr. Miller. Other survivors include her step-grandchildren; Kevin Schlachter, Casey (Dave) Leonard, Kyle (Tasha) Schlachter; and five step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, John F. Shannon; and three brothers, Claude, Victor and Earnie Miller.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the Grisier Funeral Home in Stryker. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Interment will follow in the Evansport Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Williams County Humane Society.
