Our Heroes

Two Toledo police officers are credited with rescuing two young girls from a smoke-filled house. The caller told dispatchers there were children trapped in the Moore Street home. Officials say a couch was lodged in the front doorway and on fire when crews arrived. The two officers got in the home and made contact with the 911 caller who told them two children, ages six and four, were upstairs. One of the officers broke into a locked room, finding the girls and carrying them to safety. Another child escaped out the back door. After an investigation, it was found the homeowner poured rubbing alcohol on the couch after noticing bedbugs. As she sat down to smoke, her cigarette ashes ignited the couch. No serious injuries reported.
