Overflow Warning Lifted

As we reported, several days of continuous rainfall this past week created a sewer overflow from the Montpelier wastewater treatment plant into the St. Joseph River. Residents and businesses in the area were notified. Later, on Friday, the overflow status was lifted. Officials say overflows occur when there is too much rainwater and sewage coming in to the sewage treatment plant. Officials add the greatest impact is the bacteria in the untreated sewage as storm water runoff elevates the overall bacteria levels in the river, especially near the dispersal site.
