Peggy A. Johns, 93

Peggy A. Johns, 93, of Defiance, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2022.  She was born October 27, 1928 in Highland Center, Ohio, daughter of the late Orville and Pearl (Hill) Baringer.  Peggy was a 1946 graduate of Sherwood Delaware High School, and a 1949 graduate of Bowling Green State University where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in education.  She married Lynn Johns on August 4, 1951 in Sherwood, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on December 16, 1984.  Peggy worked as a high school teacher and librarian at Fairview Central Local Schools, retiring after 42 years of service to the district.  She was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sherwood.  She also belonged to the Delta Kappa Gamma professional society for women educators and Sweet Adelines singing group.  In her free time, Peggy could be found volunteering at Sarah’s House, or at the schoolhouse in Sauder Village.  Peggy enjoyed reading, traveling, and spending time with her beloved family.

Peggy is survived by her six children, Bretta (Tim) Pendleton of Bryan, Ohio, Myla (Mark) Scheid of Valrico, Florida, Lenny (Lana) Johns of Hicksville, Ohio, Tim (Jennifer) Johns of Sherwood, Ohio, Tara (Ted) Czartoski of Sherwood, Ohio, and Barry (Amy) Johns of Archbold, Ohio; 20 grandchildren, Heath, Jared, and Morgan Pendleton, Chelsea and Whitney Scheid, Leslie and Jeff Johns, Ryan, Lacey, Meagan, Lexi and Zach Johns, Tierney and Trent Czartoski, Evan and Payton Johns, Bailey, Ashton, Brendon and Brady Johns; and 12 great-grandchildren.  Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lynn Johns; son, Sandy Johns; and one brother, William Baringer.

Visitation for Peggy A. Johns will be held Tuesday, January 25, 2022 from 3:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan, Ohio.  Funeral services for Peggy will begin at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at St. John Lutheran Church, 9088 Openlander Rd, Sherwood, OH 43556, with Pastor Eric Moquin officiating.  There will be an hour of visitation prior to the funeral at the church on Wednesday starting at 10:00 A.M.  Interment will follow in Sherwood Cemetery.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, those attending the visitation and services are asked to wear a mask to prevent the spread of the Corona virus.
