A Grover Hill man was in Putnam County Court on Wednesday, where he was hit with the maximum sentence he could get on some drug charges. 53 year old David Ranes, who went on trial last month, was given 22 years in prison on charges of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity; illegal manufacture of drugs; and illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs. All those charges were serious felonies. Ranes was found guilty of assembling chemicals and manufacturing methamphetamine, as well as leading others in a criminal enterprise. It wasn’t his first time before a judge… Ranes has a long history of drug– and alcohol-related convictions over the past 30 years along with a conviction for a sex offense and assault on a police officer. Ranes was given credit for 115 days already served.
