Putnam County man dies in house fire

A Putnam County man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a house fire near Kalida. 75 year old Robert Verhoff of Kalida, was pronounced dead at the scene by Putnam County Coroner Dr. Anne Horstman. According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, the Kalida Fire Department was called at 1:16 p.m. to a home in the 17000 block of Road M, where they found flames coming from the front of the house. Firefighters reportedly entered the residence, found Verhoff and removed him from the scene. Deputies reported that Verhoff was the only occupant of the house. The fire caused extensive damage to the home and the cause was undetermined as of this morning. The blaze is being investigated by the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office, with assistance from the sheriff’s office.
