Raymond G. “Momo” Sands, 53

Raymond G. “Momo” Sands, 53 years, of West Unity, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Ray was born November 1, 1962 in Montpelier, the son of Wayne D. and Sharon L. (Roy) Sands. Momo was a 1981 graduate of Bryan High School. He married Deborah S. Weills on July 14, 2007 in West Unity, and she survives. He worked for Frozen Specialties in Archbold for the past 30 years. Ray was a member of Living Hope Free Methodist Church, West Unity as well as the Bryan Eagles Aerie #2233, the Sons of the Amvets Post 54, Bryan and several bowling leagues in Bryan. Momo had a love to be outdoors, cutting firewood and camping. While inside, he quietly worked puzzles, followed NASCAR and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He collected Scooby Doo items as a hobby. He was in his element when his family was gathered together and have a great time being with each other.

Surviving is his wife Debbie of West Unity; two children, Heather (Larry Marowelli) Athy of Montpelier and Seth (Tammy) Sands of Montpelier; stepdaughter, Danielle (Randy) Behrens of West Unity; three grandchildren, Lenix Sands, Dakota and Teaira Athy; his parents, Wayne and Sharon Sands of West Unity; two sisters, Cherie Bassett of Newville, Indiana and Sheila Coffman of West Unity; one brother, Timothy Lee (Lillie) Sands of Bryan as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; his father and mother-in-law, Roger and Nancy Garrett of Wauseon.

Visitation for Ray will be held Tuesday, July 12, 2016 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 202 North Liberty Street, West Unity. Funeral services for Ray will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2015 in Living Hope Free Methodist Church, 1051 West Jackson Street, West Unity, with Pastor David Mathis officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Grove Cemetery, West Unity. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
