Travelers who plan to board domestic flights or enter certain federal buildings must ensure their driver’s license or state ID is REAL ID compliant by Wednesday when full enforcement of the REAL ID Act will begin to enhance security measures nationwide. The REAL ID Act was passed by Congress in 2005 in response to the security recommendations of the 9/11 Commission. The law establishes minimum security standards for the issuance and production of driver’s licenses and identification cards. These standards are meant to help prevent identity fraud and unauthorized access to federal facilities, commercial aircraft and nuclear power plants.
