Richard “Dick” Guilford, 70

Richard “Dick” Guilford, 70 years, of Hicksville, passed away suddenly, Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at the home of his son in Hicksville, Ohio. Dick was born October 10, 1951, in Defiance, Ohio, the son of the late Donald “Banty” and Clara (Wilhelm) Guilford. Dick was a 1969 graduate of Fairview High School, Sherwood, Ohio. Dick worked by CSX railroad for 42 years, retiring in 2012. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Council #10043, Hicksville American Legion Post 223, a social member of the Sherwood VFW Post 5665 and the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalman. Ohio Harness Horseman’s Association. Richard enjoyed many things, especially spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid hunter and sportsman. He enjoyed woodworking, golfing, playing softball, horseracing, and horse riding with family at the “ranch.”  He was heavily involved with his children’s athletics and coached Little League and Pony League baseball and ran the concession stand at the Hicksville Park for many years. He enjoyed all types of high school athletics and was an ardent supporter of Hicksville High School and the surrounding Green Meadows Conference schools. Most of all, he enjoyed watching and playing with his grandchildren and they grew and experienced life.

Surviving are his three children, Samuel (Vickie) Guilford of Cincinnati, Ohio, Dan (Randi) Guilford of Hicksville and Melody Stevenson of Hicksville; six grandchildren, John, Hannah, Eli, Celia, Madelin Guilford and Alora Stevenson; five siblings, Mary (Robert) Kurtz of Harlan, Indiana, Kathy (Greg) Balser and Barbara (Randy) Cline both of Hicksville, Donnie Guilford of Sherwood, Ohio, and Rita (J.R.) Layne of Mark Center, Ohio along with a countless number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Terry Guilford, and brother and sister-in-law, John and Linda Guilford.

Visitation for Richard “Dick” Guilford will be held Sunday, September 18, 2022, from 2:00 – 6:30 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, where a time of sharing will begin at 6:30 P.M. Sunday evening, followed by the recitation of the Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2022, in St. Isidore Catholic Church, 16666 Speaker Road, Delaware Bend with Father Daniel Borgelt officiating. Interment will follow in St. Stephen’s Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that those planning an expression of sympathy direct them to St. Michael Catholic Church or the Knights of Columbus Council #10043 or the Hicksville Baseball or Softball Association.
