Robert Roy Stambaugh, 97

Robert Roy Stambaugh, 97 years of Bryan, passed away peacefully, Thursday, April 27, 2023, in his home.  Bob was born January 4, 1926, in his family home in Stryker, Ohio, the son of the late Roy H. and Alma E. (Brace) Stambaugh.  He was a 1944 graduate of Stryker High School.  Bob was a World War II Navy veteran, receiving his Honorable discharge in 1946.  Bob married Norma Jean Hire on January 30, 1948, in Bryan, Ohio, and she preceded him in death on February 19, 2021.  Bob was a supervisor for Spangler Candy Company for 16 years, retiring in 1989.  He had previously worked for ARO Corp., Kroger, the former Shell Gas Station, Texaco Gas Station, Vistron Corporation and Ohio Art.  He was a member of the Bryan First Church of Christ and the Bryan American Legion Post 284, Destroyer Escort Sailors Association, and was a Past Commander of the Civil Air Patrol.  Bob received his pilot’s license and enjoyed flying his Piper Comanche.  Bob enjoyed bowling, spending time at the lake cottage at Coldwater Lake, fishing, water skiing, boating and motorcycles.

Surviving are his two daughters, Sandra L. Gordon of Bryan, Ohio, and Debbie J. (Dan) Nixon of Montpelier, Ohio; four grandchildren, Tim (Melissa) Gordon of Bryan, Nikki (Stephen Taylor) Hull of Paulding, Ohio, Matthew Nixon of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Derrick (Megan) Nixon of Westfield, Indiana; 11 great-grandchildren, Cassidy (Brody) Hankey, Korbyn Gordon, Preston Hull, Molly Hull, Sophie Hull, Julia Hull, Danny Hull, Nolan Nixon and Owen Nixon, Mason Allen and Landon Allen; one great-great-granddaughter, Addalyn Hankey.   He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma; three brothers, Ellery Stambaugh, Glen Stambaugh and Russell Stambaugh; six sisters, Lucille Burns, Virgie King, Ruth Davis, Dorothy Sheets, Mary Ussery, and Donna Oyer.

Visitation for Robert Roy Stambaugh will be held Wednesday, May 3, 2023, from 2:00 p.m.– 6:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Thursday, May 4, 2023, beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Larry Snavely officiating.  Interment will follow in Brown Cemetery, with Military Graveside Rites accorded by the combined honor guard of the Bryan American Legion Post 284 and the Bryan VFW Post 2489.

The family has requested that those planning an expression of sympathy to consider memorial contributions be made to Bryan First Church of Christ, 129 North Walnut Street, Bryan, Ohio, 43506.
