Roger Lee Wanner, 71, died peacefully on May 21, 2017, under hospice care in Defiance, Ohio, surrounded by his loving family, friends, and God’s grace.
He was born on May 22, 1945, to Robert and Kathryn (Haas) Wanner. He grew up and worked on his parents’ large Fulton County farm and graduated in 1963 from Chesterfield High School in Lyons, Ohio.
A product line supervisor for the Spangler Candy Company for nearly 31 years, Roger managed “Circus peanut” production, chocolates, and often DumDum pops. After he retired from Spangler Candy Company, Roger drove the Spangler Trolley and created his own successful pool care business in the Bryan area. Roger loved all things John Deere and was an Ohio State Buckeye fan through and through.
Roger was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. An avid golfer, he was a member of Orchard Hills Golf Club and Highland Woods GCC. He loved to grill and cook for others and often entertained his guests on the Bocce Ball Court he built. Roger scored a “Hole in One” during night golf at Highland Woods GCC in Bonita Springs, Florida. The Fort Myers News Press covered his exciting moment on December 10, 2009. An excellent gardener, Roger’s “largest Better Boy tomato plant” was featured one summer in The Bryan Times. Roger loved every one of his many pets through the years.
