Sarah DeRan, 53

Sarah Ruth DeRan, 53 years, of Toledo, passed away suddenly, Saturday, February 14, 2015 in her home in Toledo.  Sarah was born July 17, 1961 in Defiance, Ohio, the daughter of the late Glen L. and Ruth Ellen (Kroa) Anderson.  She was a 1979 graduate of Fairview High School and continued her education at the University of Toledo where she attained her Associates Degree.  She married Kenneth Boroff in 1979.  She then married Timothy M. “Tim” DeRan on May 15, 1998 in Toledo, and he survives.  Sarah began her working career at Burger Chef in Bryan.  She then worked for Elder Beerman as a Security Officer.  Sarah was a Probation Officer for the Defiance County and had currently worked as a Corrections Officer and Shift Supervisor for the Lucas County Common Pleas Court for the past 22 years, going on disability in 2013.  She was a member of the West Toledo YMCA as well as the Great Lakes Paso Fino Federation.  While in High School, Sarah was involved in 4-H and FFA.  Sarah loved spending time with her family and caring for her horses.

Surviving is her husband, Timothy of Toledo; one daughter, Brandy (Shawn) Tipton of Ney, Ohio and one son, Alexander Boroff of Stryker, Ohio; one granddaughter, Gretchen Tipton.  She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Michael Anderson and her horse and best friend, Empuje “Pooh” who died on June 2, 2012.

Visitation for Sarah Ruth DeRan will be held Friday, February 20, 2015 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday February 21, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan, Ohio (419-636-3139) where funeral services will begin at 12:00 noon on Saturday with her friend, Bill Milton officiating.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions be made to the family, who will direct the memorials to a worthy organization, which Sarah favored.
