Soon, visitors to the Williams County Courthouse will be required to walk through an electronic body scanner.
The walk-through full body scanner at the courthouse entrance is one of two new scanners purchased recently
by the county. Another new scanner will be shared between the Common Pleas and the Domestic Relations courtrooms on the third floor.
The new scanners are similar to those many people are familiar with at airports and concert venues, and like the one already being used at the entrance to the Juvenile/Probate Courtroom. The scanners are being installed in response
to a ruling from the Ohio Supreme Court, which advised every Ohio county to address courthouse security.
The scanners cost between $2,000 and $4,000 each, and are paid for with money set aside for courthouse
security by the Williams County Commissioners. They all should be in full operation within the next two weeks.
