The Paulding County Wall of Honor at the courthouse has a new name. Randall Smith, a Paulding native, died last July from injuries he received during a domestic terrorist attack on the Navy Operations Support Center in Chattanooga. His name will be placed under a new category: Global War on Terror.
The attack, which occurred July 16 at two military facilities, claimed the lives of four Marines as well. On Dec. 16, the U.S. Navy announced Smith and the Marines would all receive the Purple Heart after an investigation found the “attack was inspired by a foreign terrorist group.”
U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Smith was a 2007 graduate of Paulding High School. Smith is survived by his wife, Angie and three young daughters.
In June, the county unveiled its Wall of Honor, which has the names of more than 300 of the county’s servicemen who were killed in the line of duty during a war.
