Solar Field Update

Despite ongoing delays, the company behind the 49MW Montpelier Solar project hopes to complete construction by the end of the year, and be online in late 2024. Apex is the project developer that procures, builds, operates and maintains the system, known as Montpelier Solar. It’s set for about 450 acres in Jefferson Township in an area surrounded by U.S. 20A to the south; west of County Road 15 to the east; County Road M to the north; and mostly east of County Road 13 to the west. The project as proposed is bisected by a section of Ohio 15. Solar panels will be visible from both sides of Ohio 15 in some spots. Officials add…the project has faced delays, generally out of Apex’s control since it was first publicly proposed to county commissioners in February 2021. Most recently, Apex is waiting on an interconnection service agreement from the electricity grid operator.
