The Toledo Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a pedestrian
crash on Centennial Road near Erie Street in the City of Sylvania. The crash occurred on
July 13, 2024 at approximately 10:56 p.m.
A 2015 Jeep Wrangler operated by Donald Christian, age 54, of Lyons, Ohio, was
southbound on Centennial Road. Donald J. Fern, age 78, of Swanton, Ohio, and
Therese M. Fern, age 66, of Swanton, Ohio were pedestrians on the road. The two
pedestrians were struck by Mr. Christian.
Mr. Christian was treated on scene along with a passenger. Donald Fern and Therese Fern were
transported by ground ambulance to Toledo Hospital. Therese Fern succumbed to her
injuries. Donald Fern has life- threatening injuries.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is assisting the City of Sylvania Police Department with
this investigation. Sylvania Fire- EMS was also on scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
