Swanton schools begin laptop distribution

The Swan­ton school dis­trict has begun dis­trib­ut­ing new lap­tops to high school stu­dents and fifth graders. About 500 were handed out Wednes­day. The plan is to have the mid­dle school stu­dents get theirs next school year. While 97 per­cent of the stu­dents say they have access to com­put­ers for school work, the admin­is­tra­tion wanted to give stu­dents the tools they need to suc­ceed in col­lege and in the work force. The schools use Google class­room, which allows stu­dents a safe way to keep track of assign­ments, papers and allows teach­ers to see their progress.
