Tower is not at risk, engineer determines

A structural engineer reported some good news to the Paulding County Commissioners yesterday. The county-owned communications tower at the west end of the county fairgrounds parking lot is not currently at risk for failure. The engineer ascertained that the study that looked at overloads on the tower were for icy conditions in 40 mile an hour winds, and those conditions don’t exist now, so the tower has enough reserve capacity. The newer tower has stricter ice requirement for safety than the original tower. Now that the tower is not at risk, effective immediately, Fairground Drive in the village of Paulding will be reopened for travel.
