Former Williams County Sheriff, Steven Towns asks the Ohio Supreme Court to throw out his 2019 misdemeanor conviction…for posting confidential information, online. Towns, through his Toledo-based attorney, Henry Schaefer, is arguing that the Ohio Ethics Commission needed to…but had not ruled on…the issue before the prosecutor pursued charges. The charges against Towns stem from his October 2018 online release of documents, related to child abuse cases his office had been investigating…and a discussion Towns conducted with a Williams County parent that included elements of information contained in those documents. Towns posted more than 600 pages of investigative reports. The confidential information was eventually removed from public view. Towns was charged with two counts of public dissemination of confidential information related to a child abuse case. The Supreme Court did not rule on Wednesday and has no set timetable to make a decision.
