An escaped fugitive was taken into custody at the Love’s Travel Plaza at I-69 and U.S. 20 in Steuben County at about 5:30pm Monday evening.
Steuben County Sheriff Tim Troyer says Charles Adams was recognized by someone at the truckstop. Troyer says the 28-year-old tried to flee but was quickly apprehended without incident by deputies and Angola Police.
It was discovered that Adams swallowed purported narcotics and displayed signs of intoxication.
He was taken to Cameron Hospital for an evaluation and then transported to a hospital in Fort Wayne.
Authorities say Adams walked away from a minimum security dormitory at the Pendleton Correctional Facility on Sunday.
He was serving a 730 day sentence on a charge of theft with a prior conviction out of Steuben Circuit Court.
