United Way gets close to goal by $8,000

The United Way’s latest fundraising campaign nearly hit the goal of $286,000. With the final tally in, the Defiance County-based group announced they missed the goal by only $8,000 dollars, and beat last year’s final amount.
Companies and organizations are the backbone of the effort, with Defiance City Schools, Defiance College and employees of the county as part of the top 10 biggest givers. Others in the top 10 are First Federal Bank, GM Defiance Casting Operations, Meijer store 189, Mercy Health, ProMedica Defiance Regional Hospital, Shulz Huber & Associates and State Bank.
The money benefits 24 programs in the community that provide services to residents.
