Viola M. Speiser, 94

Viola M. Speiser, 94 years of Defiance, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2023, in her residence with her son, Rick with her.  Viola was born January 13, 1929, in Flat Rock Township, Henry County, Ohio, the daughter of the late John and Rose H. (Wulff) Retcher.  She married Gerald M. Speiser in 1947, and she preceded her in death on November 24, 2000.  Viola was a true farmer’s wife, helping Gerald operate the farm. Viola tasks included:  milking cows, making meals to take to the field, driving tractor, and transporting crops to the grain elevator.  She was a member of Olive Branch Pentecostal Church of God, rural Defiance, where she taught Sunday School for over 50 years. In her leisure time, Viola enjoyed driving her golf cart with her dog, buddy, caring for her flower gardens, and spending quiet time reading her Bible and living a Godly life.

Surviving is her son, Rick (Lynn) Speiser of Defiance; one sister-in-law, Carol Speiser of Defiance.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Elmer (Lorena) Retcher, Charley (Mildred) Retcher and Clarence (Nellie) Retcher; one sister, Linda Lou Retcher; one brother-in-law, Ned Speiser.

Visitation for Viola M. Speiser will be held Monday, March 20, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Olive Branch Pentecostal Church of God, 6893 State Route 15, Defiance, Ohio, where her funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Monday in the church with Pastor Keith Adkins and Jeremy Espinoza officiating.  Interment will follow in Sherwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood.
