Wally Nelson, 89

Wallace Richard “Wally” Nelson, age 89, of rural Napoleon, passed away Thursday evening, March 13, 2014 at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold. Prior to his retirement he had been a lifelong area farmer and cattle feeder.

Wally was born in Henry County, Ohio on December 9, 1924, the son of Martin C. and Edna (Saneholtz) Nelson. On September 29, 1945 he married Jane A. Lee and she preceded him in death in 2008.  He was a member of the Archbold Evangelical Church, where he served as Chairman of the Building Committee, as a Sunday School Teacher, and as an Elder. Wally was an Army Veteran of WWII. He was a past-president of the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association, the National Cattlemen’s Association, and a former member of the Henry County School Board. He had also served on the Board of Directors for the Henry County Health Department and served on the Board of Directors for the Ridgeville Telephone Company.  He was also a member of the T-Bone Club for nearly 50 years.

Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Daniele of Cambridge, OH, Beth (David) Sutton of Muskegon, MI; four sons, Ric A. (Beverly) Nelson of Napoleon, Randon (Renee) Nelson of Salesville, OH, Ross (Deb) Nelson of Salesville, OH, Roger (Trudy) Nelson of Salesville, OH; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Evangeline Miller of Deming, New Mexico and Leah Schuster of Durango, Colorado and special friend, Wilma Fruth of Defiance. Preceding him in death, besides his wife, Jane, were three sisters, Martha Reiser, Anna Mae Lewis and Grace Marie Johnson, and son-in-law, Dr. David Sutton.

Visitation for Wally will be held from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 16, 2014 in the Fireside Room at the Archbold Evangelical Church. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday in the Sanctuary at Archbold Evangelical Church, with Pastor Jesse Kahler, officiating. Interment will be in the Archbold Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the church or Miracle Camp. Grisier Funeral Home in Archbold has been entrusted with arrangements.
