About 30 percent of children are overweight in the U.S. But in Williams County, for children in Kindergarten through sixth grade, that number is much higher. 42 percent are classified as obese. That’s according to individual body mass index screenings of 941 local students recorded last year by the Williams County Health Department. And the problem is even more pronounced for adults…in Williams County, approximately 71 percent of adults are either overweight or obese. Addressing adult and youth obesity was identified as a priority in the county health department’s 2016 Community Health Improvement Plan. And it was the No. 1 health concern for Williams County residents in a 2013 countywide health status study by the Williams County Health Partners Planning Committee.
