Commissioners in Williams County are expected to apply for a state grant to provide and improve affordable housing in the county and in Bryan for low- and moderate-income residents. The funding from the CHIP program gives much-needed money to communities to begin housing-related activities. The commission says if they receive the $800,000 grant, most of it, about $630,000 would be available to help homeowners bring their homes up to code. It’ll also be able to help pay for one or two emergency issues homeowners have, and some money is earmarked for landlords to improve their rental properties. Habitat for Humanity would get about $20,000 and Met Housing about $25k.
The commission says they should probably know in August if they’re awarded the grant.
