Williams County Fair board nixes future concerts

The Williams County Fair will not put on another main concert unless the cost is 75 percent covered by sponsorship money by February. The Bryan Times reports Fair board chairman Dave Page made the motion at the fair board’s post-fair regular monthly meeting Thursday. The motion was passed unanimously by all 17 fair board members present. Page — who also serves as entertainment committee chairman — cited low attendance and ongoing losses, especially the past four years, for the motion. The Eric Paslay/Chris Lane concert on Sept. 14 drew just 572 attendees. The concert cost $42,528 but took in just $12,179, for a net loss of $30,349.50, according to preliminary figures released Thursday.
