Williams County man was sentenced in the death of a 3-year-old Columbus girl

A Williams County man was sentenced Wednesday in the death of a 3-year-old Columbus girl. 26 year old Tyson Reliford of Edgerton, was sentenced to 11 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the beating death of toddler, Aiyanna Thompson, on Feb. 9, 2015. The Columbus Dispatch reported that Reliford had been babysitting Thompson when she sustained head injuries. Columbus police reported that Thompson was taken to a hospital with injuries on Feb. 7, 2015, after what the department reported was an assault by Reliford, who was caring for the child and her 5-year-old brother while the children’s mother was at work. After being transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital for treatment, police reported that Thompson died Feb. 9. Injuries included bruises and head trauma. Reliford was arrested Feb. 8 after barricading himself in an apartment, police said. He was indicted by the Franklin County grand jury on July 23, 2015. The sentence in the Franklin County Common Pleas Court was part of a plea agreement.
