The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office says a 25-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday after she allegedly tried to poison her husband by switching his medication… with rat poison.

Renee Mansfield of Ashley now faces felony charges of aggravated battery and possession of a controlled substance.

Mansfield also faces a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana.

During the investigation, detectives say they found out that Mansfield had replaced medication with D-CON rat poison in an attempt to kill her 28 year old husband, Andrew Mansfield.

Renee Mansfield appeared for an initial hearing Wednesday in Steuben County Magistrate Court and is now in jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.

The case remains under investigation by the Ashley Police Department and the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department.
