World War II casualty’s sacrifice finally remembered

A Defiance woman whose father died in World War 2 about 71 years ago has finally gotten some recognition for the loss by receiving a Gold Star Banner. The woman, LouAnna Grant, was 9 when her dad shipped out on the U.S.S. Indianapolis to deliver parts for an atomic bomb. The Japanese torpedoed the battleship and sank it. Though her father was one of the sailors lost on the ship, his sacrifice had never been recognized until The West Unity American Legion made it happen.
