Jade Scott’s Disney Summer Service Grant paid off Saturday when she gave away at least 200 pairs of new shoes to people in need. Last year, the Montpelier 12-year-old was one of only 340 people to receive a $500 Disney Summer of Service Grant, which she used to fuel the shoe giveaway. Scott has participated in events like this before, being a part of an organization called H.U.G.S. which stands for Help Us Give Shoes for three years and even starting a Montpelier branch of the organization. This year’s WBNO-WQCT Blizzard Auction, for which Montpelier H.U.G.S. was the beneficiary, raised about $11,500. Overall, Scott said the giveaway went well.
