Perrysburg school board members voted today to make Pam Harrington the district’s new treasurer.
The decision comes months after former treasurer Matt Feasel resigned in response to being put on leave after a department employee stole nearly $800,000 from the school board and a separate athletics booster organization.
Ms. Harrington, who is now the the Defiance City Schools treasurer, will be paid $110,000 a year. She was was one of 14 applicants for the job.
The search began after Mr. Feasel stepped down on Feb. 11, which followed an audit of the department revealing that he was liable for $95,339 of the money laundered by former accounts receivable clerk Eric Whitson of Bowling Green. Whitson pleaded guilty to 11 counts of embezzlement and was convicted of money laundering and tampering with records. He was also sentenced to 10 years in prison and ordered to pay in restitution for the thefts.
