A Waterloo motorist is in the hospital after crashing into a slow-moving homemade trailer on Interstate 69 last night, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department. Police said 83 year old Arnold Schmidt of Vestaburg, Michigan, was hauling a trailer with his minivan. He was driving below the posted speed limit in the right lane on northbound I-69 sometime before 10 p.m. 30 year old Katherine R. Hobbs of Waterloo also was driving a minivan and collided into Schmidt’s vehicle. She was taken to Parkview Hospital, complaining of abdomen pain and possible internal injuries. Schmidt was not wearing a seat belt. Hobbs was wearing a seat belt and officials didn’t report he was hurt. The incident remains under investigation
