Montpelier man facing multiple charges of car theft in Williams County Court of Common Pleas

28 year old James A. Powers of Montpelier who authorities believe was behind at least 13 car thefts since late September, has been indicted in the Williams County Court of Common Pleas. Charges filed against Powers included nine counts of fourth-degree felony grand theft auto, two second-degree felony counts of burglary and one misdemeanor count of failure to comply with order or signal of a police officer. Williams County Prosecutor Katie Zartman stated there may be other charges in the future. Zartman clarified that Powers may have been involved in other crimes and may have had accomplices, but declined to discuss specifics. Powers’ case will go before a Fulton County Common Pleas court grand jury on Monday for potential charges related to offenses in that county.
