The Pioneer Village Council has awarded bids for work on a new substation for the planned AquaBounty salmon farm. During a meeting in December, John Courtney of Courtney & Associates, in Findlay, said the substation is being built primarily to serve the new load coming in from AquaBounty, which is building a 479,000-square-foot facility to raise 10,000 tons of genetically modified salmon a year. However, it will serve another purpose. Because Mayor Ed Kidston has personal ties to AquaBounty through his private business, Artesian of Pioneer, he recused himself from the meeting.
