The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office is investigating allegations that a Steuben County registered sex offender violated Indiana’s Sex and Violent Offender Registry law. Authorities say the alleged violation occurred in DeKalb County. Reports indicate Steuben County Sheriff’s detectives received information that registered sex offender, 29 year old Dominique Morton, who was reporting to be homeless in Steuben County, allegedly failed to report a change in employment information as required by Indiana law. The place of employment in question was located in DeKalb County, which prompted Sheriff’s detectives to coordinate the investigation with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and the DeKalb County Prosecutor’s Office. As a result of the investigative efforts, a DeKalb County arrest warrant was obtained for Morton charging him with one count of failure to register as a sex or violent offender with a prior conviction, a level 5 felony. Morton surrendered himself to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and was booked. Morton also has two active arrest warrants out of Steuben County alleging violations of probation and will be returned to face those charges in the near future.
