A water availability study conducted in Steuben County, shows a minimum water surplus of 5 million gallons a day of water. Angola officials hired INTERA, an environmental and water resources consulting firm based in Austin, Texas, to do a water study in the county. Officials say excess water availability is a measure of how much more water can be withdrawn from the hydrologic system without negatively impacting the system. That measurement is above the amount of water currently withdrawn. Overall water availability, though, varies by season and by year and availability in the future can only be inferred from the past. Going forward, INTERA suggests installing acoustic sensors and telemetry on 6 to 10 well installations, in and outside of Angola for four years.
