Good Reports For The City

The City of Bryan is doing well, Mayor Carrie Schlade said during her State of the City Address Monday night, but a little growth would be nice. Part of that was on display earlier in the meeting, when council passed, under suspension of the rules requiring three readings, two resolutions for Community Reinvestment Area tax exemptions for current businesses which are making improvements within the city. She also pointed to several lots within the Industrial Park Wilson Street that remain open. She added the incentive package that council has allowed the city to offer, as well as work by the staff to draw new business, keeps the city competitive. She added the process can be difficult because while officials want to draw new business, they have to keep in mind what sort of fit they will be for the community and businesses that are already here.
