Montpelier has become a Purple Heart Village.

In order to honor those veterans wounded in the line of duty, Montpelier has become a Purple Heart Village. Councilman Kevin Motter, who did the leg work for the designation, says there are different categories of veterans, and those who received Purple Hearts are held in the highest regard, second only to those service members who died of their injuries. In order to receive the designation of Purple Heart Village, Motter reached out to Military Order of the Purple Heart Defiance Post No. 643. All it took at that point was creating a resolution and purchasing a sign. In addition to the sign, the village also received a plaque. Local Purple Heart Recipients were honored at the meeting of the Montpelier Village Council, Monday night, where a resolution was read and the plaque was presented to village officials. The meeting was held at the Williams County Veterans Memorial Building, which is located on the recently dedicated Williams County Veterans Memorial Highway.
