Bryan Police awarded state money to help outfit officers with body-worn cameras.

The Bryan Police Department is awarded $8,855 dollars from the state to help it complete a project to outfit all officers with body-worn cameras. Last year, the department was awarded $42,428 for the cameras and a dedicated server to archive the video collected. The department received 14 cameras as a result of that round of funding. The cameras mount to an officer’s vest with a magnetic backing to them. The officers are being permitted to wear a modified vest for the camera so as not to add weight to their equipment belts. The storage of footage will be done in compliance with records retention policies. Once the retention time has passed, the footage is deleted from the server. The latest round of funding comes from a total of $4.8 million the state is awarding to police departments around Ohio for officer-worn cameras. The state received $10 million in funding requests from Ohio police departments for this round of funding.
