A Defiance woman, charged in Williams County with felonious assault files several motions with the court related to showing self-defense. Samantha Smith, 38, filed in Williams County Pleas Court. The assault charge is a second-degree felony. The first motion asks for the prosecuting attorney to release all video currently in the office’s possession, or that of the Williams County Sheriff’s Office, related to an incident involving the defendant and the alleged victim, dated April 1, 2023. Smith stated this information is directly related to her claim of self-defense and establishment of her reasonable fear of physical violence by the alleged victim. A second filing…Smith intends to present testimony, related to the prior acts of the alleged victim in the matter. The third filing provides notice of Smith’s intent to present evidence related to self-defense, including photo or video evidence, text messages…or prior incidences of threats and more.
