Van Wert Police investigating arson on the city’s west side.

The Van Wert Police Department is investigating an arson on the city’s west side. Officials say, dispatch responded to a garage on fire at a Leeson Avenue home. Once officers arrived at the scene, they reportedly found evidence that indicated someone used a Molotov cocktail to try to set the garage on fire, although a nearby recycling bin was the only thing on fire when authorities arrived. According to the Van Wert Police Department, there was someone inside the garage when the arson happened, and surveillance footage showed that per running away from the scene. Officials describe the suspect as someone with a “skinny build” who is between 5 feet 8 inches and 5-10. The investigation continues.
