Montpelier joins the county’s geographical information systems program.

The Village of Montpelier has joined up with the county’s geographical information systems program. The Village Council approved a memorandum of understanding at its meeting. The memorandum, passed under suspension of the rules requiring three readings, states the village will pay $550 dollars a year for ArcGIS and will also purchase 1,000 credits a year at a cost of $120. Justin Houk, deputy village manager, said county officials are working on getting all the municipalities in on the same setup, with Edgerton and West Unity already joined. In preparation of the partnership, he said the village had purchased two iPads to start collecting data on its waterlines, meters, valves and manholes. Separately, Houk said village officials have submitted an application to replace lead waterlines on Main Street. Officials are looking at other funding options to help cover the cost.
