Civil case filed in federal court against the Campbell Soup Co. plant in Napoleon.

A civil case has been filed in federal court against the Campbell Soup Co. plant in Napoleon, alleging the manufacturing facility has not complied with its permitted wastewater limits for years, leading to pollutants flowing into the Maumee River and its tributaries. The United States of America, by the authority of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office and at the request of the United States Environmental Protection Agency, filed the civil action in the Northern District Ohio, Western District, last week. According to details in the Bryan Times, the lawsuit alleges from August 2018 through present, the company submitted certified discharge monitoring reports to the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency identifying hundreds of discharges that contained concentrations of cancerous chemicals.
