Fire in Defiance Monday afternoon.

Firefighters put out a smoldering house on East Second Street in Defiance Monday afternoon before it grew out of control thanks to a prompt response. Three additional local departments and city firemen were dispatched. Defiance Fire Chief Shawn Wittkop reported that firefighters arrived at Second St. at 12:30 p.m. to see flames emanating from a window upstairs. Crews were able to extinguish the blaze quickly. The home’s four occupants exited the home without injury. And, no firefighters were injured.
