Defiance Native Honored

A Defi­ance native and Army recruit was rec­og­nized at the Pen­ta­gon last month for her work as a sex­ual assault pre­ven­tion advo­cate.

The Cres­cent News reports that 22 year old Natasha (Woodruff) Schuette was one of three women hon­ored dur­ing a Pen­ta­gon cer­e­mony com­mend­ing the women for their char­ac­ter, courage and com­mit­ment to Army val­ues.

Schuette, who is a 2010 Tinora grad, was hon­ored for the work she has done to call atten­tion to sex­ual abuse and assault in the mil­i­tary.

Schuette was nom­i­nated for the award by a civil­ian who saw a video about her own reported abuse.

She was in good com­pany.

Other hon­orees included 106-year-old World War II vet­eran Alyce Dixon, and Tracey Pin­son, the Army’s highest-ranking African-American senior exec­u­tive ser­vice mem­ber and direc­tor of the Army’s Small Busi­ness Pro­gram.

Shuette is now sta­tioned at Fort Bragg, in North Carolina.
