Defiance Fire

Firefighters battled flames in Defiance County on Wednesday morning.

The Crescent News says firefighters from Tiffin, Jewell and South Richland townships were called out just after 9 Wednesday morning to a fire on Mekus Road that originated in a well pump building, then spread to a nearby outbuilding.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated, but they think it may have been caused by a build up of natural gas in the well.

Flames damaged a lawn mower and some small tools in the outbuilding. The loss is estimated at between $9,000 and $10,000 for property and contents.
