Some Bryan Electric Services To Face Mandatory Upgrades

Some 240 Bryan Municipal Utilities customers will soon likely have to replace their old, obsolete, and in many cases, damaged electric meter bases, and make upgrades to their service to at least 200 amp service within the next year. According to a report in the Bryan Times, the affected customers own their own service bases mounted on the side of their homes or businesses, and they will be responsible for the cost of the upgrades. Most of the services that need replacement, according to Bryan Municipal Utilities, are old 60 amp services, which are no longer considered adequate or even safe. Others are 100-amp bases that are showing signs of damage or exposed wiring. The bases are separate from the glass-enclosed meters, which are owned by BMU. More information is available at the BMU ofice in Bryan.
